The historic METROPOLITAN AFRICAN METHODIST EPISCOPAL (AME) CHURCH
PROUDLY COMMEMORATES ITS 125TH ANNIVERSARY, marking more than a
century of FAITH, resilience, and dedicated SERVICE TO THE HARLEM
COMMUNITY AND BEYOND.Founded on April 3, 1901, Metropolitan AME Church
began as a small gathering of believers united in faith and purpose.
Today, it stands as the second-oldest African Methodist Episcopal
congregation in Manhattan and a cornerstone of spiritual life in
Harlem.
This milestone year is being celebrated under the theme: “125 YEARS:
FOLLOWING THE CHARGE, RUNNING THE RACE, KEEPING THE FAITH” (HEBREWS
12:1–2).
In honor of this historic occasion, METROPOLITAN WILL HOST ITS 125TH
ANNIVERSARY GALA
on MAY 30, 2026
, from 1:00 PM TO 6:00 PM
at the iconic Alhambra Ballroom, located at 2116 Adam Clayton Powell,
Jr. Boulevard in Harlem. The gala will bring together members,
community leaders, and supporters for an afternoon of celebration,
reflection, and fellowship. Tickets are priced at $150 per person,
with discounted tables of 10 available for $1,350. Children 12 and
under may attend for $100. “This anniversary is not only a
celebration of our past, but a recommitment to our future and
continued commitment to our community,” said Rev. Dr. Linda C. Hill,
Pastor of Metropolitan AME Church. “For 125 years, God has sustained
us, and we remain dedicated to sharing the love of Jesus Christ
through effective preaching, teaching, and outreach to all
people.” The community is invited to join in this historic
celebration and continue our legacy of faith, service, and unity for
generations to come.
