_Brain Matters_ is a DOCUMENTARY FILM ABOUT THE SCIENCE OF EARLY
CHILDHOOD AND WHAT IT TAKES FOR CHILDREN TO GET THE BEST POSSIBLE
START IN LIFE. Produced by the Genesis Foundation (Colombia) and
filmed in the US, India, Spain, the United Kingdom, Mexico and
Colombia, _Brain Matters_ features cutting-edge research and high
quality programs and intervention models such as The Abecedarian
Project. Creating awareness about the importance of the early years
and fueling policy change is at the heart of their mission. _Brain
Matters_ reveals that learning begins way before children go to school
and that it’s the experiences children are exposed to that determine
their chances for future success. Everyday situations such as play,
relationships, language and nutrition are examined with a fresh
scientific approach, aiming at a set of brain boosting skills and
activities that can provide every child with the opportunity to
thrive.
Through interviews with cutting-edge researchers, scientists,
economists, families and educators, _Brain Matters_ explores the so
called “miracle years”, a critical period of our lives that no one
remembers, in a profound new way—emphasizing how the first few years
are the greatest opportunity we have to give children the best start
in life.
This screening is sponsored by UNC Frank Porter Graham Child
Development Institute (FPG) and Carolina Public Humanities (CPH).
Doors will open at 5:30 pm. The screening will start at 6:00 pm and
will be followed by Q&A.
