Yoga is so much more than just exercise. When we know the origins of
the practice we can attain new levels of clarity! The origins of Yoga
can be traced back thousands of years, to the 5th and 6th centuries
BCE, when Rishis (meaning great seers/wise people) wrote down what
they and their predecessors had discovered – the science of
connecting to higher states of being or ‘Yoga’. Their writing
became known as the Vedas. All Western Yoga is derived from the
philosophy of these Vedic texts. During our 75 minutes of movement,
concepts and terminology from the Vedas will be interwoven into a
flowing sequence of postures that focus on the breath and that easily
bring our bodies from the floor to standing and back to the floor for
rest. We will use ancient mystical knowledge to make shapes with our
bodies that empower, release and restore. If you have ever been
curious about the origins of Yoga or the meaning of yogic terms this
is the class for you! All Levels welcome, whether you are an advanced
yogi or completely new to the practice, these lessons are relevant to
all.
