For years, students and faculty from The University Speaking Center
[https://speakingcenter.uncg.edu/]at UNC GREENSBORO have served as
communication coaches to Peacehaven Community Farm
[https://www.peacehavenfarm.org/]'s Core Members. As we launch the
next chapter in this partnership, both Peacehaven and The Speaking
Center are excited to announce: Open enrollment weekly
activity-driven oral communication programming for adults with
intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in the Greensboro area.
Participants and their care givers will gain oral communication
competencies through improv and experiential based engagement.
Caregivers/companions, who will be invited to participate, need to
stay for the whole program.
No need to register caregivers.
Repeat attendance is encouraged.
For more about our partnership, here is an article

practice 'trying on' smiles based on pictures we will provide.
Lesson 2: Participants will work on open and tall posture through
brief presentations in which participants will share about themselves.
Lesson 3: Participants will hold practice conversations and learn
about nonverbal aspects of communication.
Lesson 4: Participants will take on the role of being a job
interviewer, and will interview their caregivers to practice eye
contact.
Lesson 5: Participants will be given a random household object and
asked to craft a product pitch and apply all of the skills they have
learned.
Each of these lesson plans will be repeated in the same order until
the end of the program.
