BASKETBALL SKILLS
Decision Making
A huge step in raising your game from being a good player to a great
player is decision making. Phil's vision and BASKETBALL IQ WERE OFF
THE CHARTS. In a school with a history of GREAT point guards, Phil
Ford was the greatest! Learn his process for decision making that made
him the guy people wanted to play with and be like. Decision making
has two components. The first is what decision to make, the second is
to know when to make it. Nobody understands this better than Phil
Ford. This is why Coach Smith put so much trust in him and knew when
he called for four corners with Phil as his point guard the game was
over. Phil was an exceptional ball handler and scorer but what made
him great was his ability to know when to dribble, when to pass, and
when to shoot.
Ball Handling
Arguably one of the best ball handlers to step foot on the court of
North Carolina. Phil became one with the ball. If he had the ball in
his hands you were not going to steal it plain and simple. Go through
the drills that made his opponents fear him when he decided to put the
ball on the court and drive to the basket.
Shooting
Phil was the leading scorer in Carolina history until Tyler Hansbrough
broke it. A great outside shot with the ability to seemingly drive at
the basket and score at will. His shot was the envy of BASKETBALL
PLAYERS GROWING UP.
Defense
Learn how to shut down your opponent by improving your defensive game
and positioning. We will over drills that will make your opponent
second-guess his next move.
Functional Performance Training
Learn the exercises and proper technique that will help you become
quicker, more explosive, and achieve a higher vertical. You will be
guided step by step through these exercises and drills plus be given a
one-month training program to follow so you get the absolute best
results! Your coaches will be able to see the difference and you will
put yourself ahead of the competition separating yourself from the
pack. The best athletes know that it's the work they put in off the
court that really makes the difference.
Speed/Agility Work
BASKETBALL IS ALL ABOUT AGILITY AND QUICKNESS. Work on the drills that
will give you the first step ahead of the competition. Body control,
explosion off the line and lateral-direction change drills will get
you prepared to blow by everyone else.
Power Development and Explosion
Form will only take you so far but by developing power and explosion
from your lower body you will see dramatic increases in takeoff power
as well as your vertical. Learn the proper techniques from experts
that will not only increase your performance but reduce injuries as
well!
Jump Variations
Learning the correct jumping technique can greatly increase your
jumping ability. We will work on different variations of the jump so
you're prepared no matter what position you are in.
Upper Body Development
Don't get pushed off the ball, set yourself up as a power player by
developing your upper body. Whether you are boxing someone out or
driving into the lane using the power in your upper body can create
separation. Get tips on how to properly develop your upper body in
order to shrug off defenders.
Work Out Plan and Explanation
Each student will receive a one-month training program for them to
follow after leaving the camp. We will go over all the exercises as
well as how to read and follow the program. Following this program
will get you results!
