How often do you communicate with someone else during the day? How
many different tools do you use to communicate? Come chat with us as
we explore all the different ways humans, animals, and computers
communicate with one another. Did you know spiders could send messages
in their webs long before websites existed? We’ll have a chance to
recreate that. We’ll also study electronic devices that allow us to
communicate, as well as how people communicated over long distance
before phones were invented. We’ll even build a flashlight to send
messages, using a cryptic code. To do this, we’ll learn about secret
codes that people have used over the years to keep their messages
private and how computer engineers still use secret codes today.
Students will also engineer a secret safe to keep all of their
messages and belongings from enemy eyes. In this module, students will
take the role of a communications engineer and talk about the many
ways we connect to one another.
