At 15 pounds and 4 ounces, one year old Henry is a fighter. Born six
weeks premature with End Stage Renal Failure, Henry spent his first
days fighting for his life in the NICU. Days turned to weeks to
months, as a team of dedicated nurses and doctors rallied to support
Henry in his fight.
Henry’s mom, Elizabeth, vividly remembers her 20 week
ultrasound. Elizabeth shares, “During that visit, we found out that
our baby boy had kidneys problems. We were immediately referred to the
high risk OB. They said he wouldn't have a chance. We chose to believe
God had a purpose for us. It wasn't our choice but His. The following
days and months were a whirlwind of tests, ultrasounds, doctor visits,
meetings with our team at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and 8
amniocentesis where I was given more amniotic fluid to keep Henry
alive. All leading up to the birth our of our little miracle, Henry,
on February 15, 2016. When Henry was born the doctors told us he
wouldn't make it. Yet time after time he's proved them wrong. Henry
continues to make amazing progress!”
After four and a half challenging months in the NICU, Henry was given
the green light his parents had been praying for and released from the
hospital.
Today, Henry continues to thrive but his family and doctors remain
vigilant with round-the-clock care for his under-functioning kidney.
He will need a life-saving kidney transplant in the near future.
With the cost of a transplant often exceeding $500,000, most
transplant families are unable to shoulder the financial burden of
such a procedure alone.
On April 29, we have an incredible opportunity to come alongside the
Rogers in a very tangible way and show them we are fighting for Henry
too. Join us at MadTree Brewery 2.0 for a fun celebration in honor
of Henry. All proceeds from the event will assist with
transplant-related expenses now and throughout his lifetime.
_The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national
charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising
funds for transplant-related expenses for Henry and children like
him. Volunteers in Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Chicago are raising
funds for COTA in honor of Henry. _
