Alec Litowitz is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Magnetar
Capital, a leading alternative asset management firm. He also serves
as Chairman of the firm’s Management Committee and is co-head of the
Investment Committee.
Alec began his financial services career in corporate finance at JP
Morgan in New York focusing in the Financial Institutions Group. Prior
to founding Magnetar in 2005, he was a Principal at Citadel Investment
Group and served as Global Head of Equities and a member of the
Management and Investment Committees.
He created and continues to be extensively involved with the Magnetar
Capital UChicago Financial Education Initiative, an innovative high
school-based financial education program. Since 2012, the initiative
has used technology, teamwork and competition to help high schoolers
increase their financial literacy. To date, the initiative has taught
more than 900 classes, educating nearly 19,000 students.
As an athlete and avid outdoorsman, Alec enjoys endurance and
adventure races including triathlons and off-road mountain bike
competitions. He completed the Perskindol Swiss Epic, a six-day
mountain bike stage race with 500 riders in September 2017, the La
Ruta de los Conquistadores mountain bike race in 2014, and the Hawaii
Ironman in 2004. His interest in competitive sports led him to
Dare2tri, a nationally focused non-profit that provides triathlon and
single-event training to young people and adults with disabilities,
where he serves as Board Chair.
Alec graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a
Bachelor of Science in mathematics and anthropology and went on to
receive a Juris Doctor and a Master of Business Administration from
the University of Chicago. While at Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, Alec became the first All-American squash player in the
school’s history.
