Supervisory Training Series I Certification: Morning Program

In this five-part SERIES, participants will gain an understanding of their role as a supervisor as well as employment law as it relates to common SUPERVISORY ISSUES. They will also learn how to apply basic managerial and interpersonal skills including dealing with the everyday challenges of being a supervisor, communicating effectively with others, resolving workplace conflict, managing performance, and coaching. Participants will not only learn fresh insights and ideas and practice their skills within an energizing, interactive, and supportive environment, but will also have access to a variety of job aids and resources to help them implement their new competencies in the workplace. This training series is from 9 AM to 12 PM. EMPLOYMENT LAW Date 6/30/20 | Time 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM The final session of the series is taught by an employment law attorney who discusses employment law, including: * Overview of the legal landscape * Workplace discrimination and harassment * Employee leaves of absence * Employee performance issues CONFLICT MANAGEMENT Date 6/16/20 | Time 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM In session 3 of the series, these learning points are discussed: * Definitions of conflict, benefits, and consequences * Costs and causes of conflict * Conflict management styles * Strategies to manage and more positively resolve conflict * Practical tools for dealing with challenging people, challenging situations, and dysfunctional conflict COMMUNICATION Date 6/9/20 | Time 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM In session 2 of the series, these learning points are discussed: * Meaningful communication as a supervisor * Importance of building relationships and rapport with others * Influences of body language and tone of voice on verbal communication * Active listening skills * Social style awareness and how to adapt to others’ styles for more effective communication ROLE OF THE SUPERVISOR Date 6/2/20 | Time 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM In the first session of the five-part series, the following topics will be discussed: * Attributes of successful supervisors * Relationship between successful supervision and trust * Roles and responsibilities of a supervisor as a leader * Transition from individual contributor to supervisor * Common challenges faced by supervisors MANAGING EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE Date 6/23/20 | Time 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM The 4th session of the series will discuss: * The Performance Management Cycle and Partnership * SMART goals for effective performance evaluation * Effective and meaningful feedback practices * SIMPLE system for documenting and tracking performance * Strategies for delivering an evaluation
