Facilitated by Sonya Verma
Category: Bodywork, Contemplation
In our modern world we are often in our heads instead of our bodies.
Welcome time to slow down, reflect and honor the magic of the inner
world. We will explore embodying and contemplative practices through
yin yoga and guided meditations. This is a 6-week class but we welcome
drop ins, provided we have space.
Yin yoga is a wonderful complement to the more active, solar yang
style of yoga with slower, longer held poses that target the
connective tissue in our bodies: ligaments, tendons, and fascia. This
allows your body space for a deeper release by holding postures longer
(for 3-5 minutes). Supports and props are offered if needed. This
gives time for the muscles to relax, allowing the body to go to the
deeper tissues. This class combines breathing exercises and Yin to
explore the edges of your practice on and off your mat. This class is
suitable for all levels and no prior yoga experience is required.
Sonya Verma is a yoga instructor, meditation coach and Reiki Master.
Prior to her journey as a yoga instructor she earned her B.S. in Human
Nutrition and Masters in Healthcare Administration and Business
Informatics. During her time in school and working in the healthcare
industry, yoga and meditation became a cornerstone of her life and
helped her stay healthy in mind, body and spirit. She felt drawn to
different modalities of healing and went deeper into her practice
which inspired her to share her passion with others. When Sonya is not
teaching yoga or training she enjoys spending quality time with her
husband Daniel and two lovely kittens Bodhi and Willow. She also
enjoys spending time with her family, friends, cooking, hiking and
traveling.
