Tradition: The Red Tent (also called moon lodge or menstrual tent) is
an ancient tradition where women come together under the New Moon to
honor their sacred cycles. The time that we get our menstrual cycles
is intimately related to the amount of light in the night sky. In
ancient times, when people spent huge amounts of time outdoors and
lived with the cycles of the Earth & Moon, all women got their
menstrual cycles at the same time. Previously, all women bled at the
time of the least light in the night sky, the Dark Moon. During the
New Moon women would join together and partake in monthly Red
Tent/Moon Lodge ceremonies. During their blood time, they were
released of their chores and responsibilities, and joined together
amongst sisters for ritual and rest. This idea is often misunderstood
in our modern culture. Women were not sent off due to weakness or
over-emotionality. Instead, they were empowered to take this time for
themselves. For it was believed that during their monthly shed, women
receive information from the Universe, from the Whole, that is then to
be transcribed to the rest of their people. The Red Tent gathering is
thought to have been one of the first ceremonies humans joined
together in. This seems logical, since our monthly menstrual cycle is
the most ancient & innate part of our being as humans! The Red tent
was also a place where the Women's Mysteries were passed down,
teaching the younger generations how to work with the energetic cycles
of womanhood. Because this tradition is not commonly found in modern
society, the majority of women are being denied their rites of passage
into womanhood! This is our opportunity to reclaim our rites of
passage & initiate ourselves & our sisters into the Moon Lodge
Mysteries! Today, the Red Tent is a place where women commune to
celebrate their feminine rhythms. A place where we grow individually
and communally through ceremony, meditation, art, and council sharing.
In the Red Tent, women join to delve into our connectivity to each
other, to the Earth, and to the Moon. Together we will create a safe
space for healing and sharing and reclaiming the sacredness of our
blood! When we reclaim the sacredness of our monthly shed, we empower
ourselves and each other to thrive in our most optimum existence as
multi-dimensional beings! The cycles of women are as closely connected
to the Moon as are the ocean’s ebbing tides. Although our natural
rhythms used to be celebrated, women’s periods have recently
undergone fierce suppression. For centuries, women have been shamed
for their cycles and feminine energies. Most modern women have been
taught to hide their blood and dispose of it unnaturally, instead of
returning it to the Earth. We are once again uniting and remembering
the sacredness of our moontime! As the Earth feeds us, so we feed her.
The Red Tent gives women a safe place to join in sisterhood to learn
the Women’s Mysteries and to give their moon blood back to Mama
Gaia. Additional Information about the Red Tent Ceremony: The Red Tent
is a space where women can join together to share their stories in a
safe place. The Red Tent reminds women of our intimate connection to
the Moon and her cycles, as well the connection we all share through
our womb centers. It is an opportunity for rest, reflection, and
meditation. It is a place where we celebrate menstruation, birth,
breastfeeding, and the wisdom shared by post-menopausal sisters. We
will create a safe and confidential container, and then dive deep into
our intuitive womb wisdom to discuss the blood mysteries and our
feminine cycles. With the monthly shed of our blood, we will release
liberations that we are ready to set free, while setting intentions
for what we want to manifest in the new lunar cycle. Any menstruating
women are encouraged to bring their moonblood to the ceremony. There
are different methods for doing so. Women using tampons or pads can
soak them in water, pour the water in a glass jar, and bring it tthe y
Red Tent. If using a menstrual cup, moonblood can be poured directly
into a glass jar. Nursing women are welcomed to offer their holy
breast milk as well. As part of our sacred ceremony, we will return
the blood & milk of our sisters to the Earth, opening a window of
transformation and growth. Please come to the Red Tent with an open
heart and mind. We come together as women, to share our truths and
heal through community. About the Facilitator: Hi! I am Laura. I am a
