“Glorious Gourds & Dramatic Paintings” by Claudia Herber and Kathleen Buck

Currents Gallery’s next show features the amazingly compatible art of Claudia Herber and Kathleen Buck, both close friends, and two of the gallery’s six partners. Claudia’s favorite form of expression has involved gourds for the last 15 years. She strives to make her gourds into dazzling sculptures, using brilliant colors, metallics and embossing. Her latest inspiration has come from wood carvings. Her techniques result in unusual shapes and dramatic surfaces. Always pushing the envelope, Claudia produces fine art that the customer will delight in. The dramatic acrylic paintings in this show are by Kathleen Buck, who also experiments with exciting new techniques. Currently she is playing with folding the canvas before stretching and painting it, and creating other abstract works. Both artists are award winners in their fields. Claudia has competed and won in the annual Wertz Gourd Festival, and events of the Washington State Gourd Society. Kathleen has won numerous awards through participation in the Watercolor Society of Oregon since 1994.
