Department of Chemistry Seminar Series: Sachel Villafane-Garcia,
California State University, Fullerton California State University
Assistatnt Professor, Sachel Villafane-Garcia , will present at the
Department of Chemistry's weekly seminar series About Professor
Villafane-Garcia Dr. Villafane-Garcia's research interests are in
chemical education research, focused on understanding how the
chemistry curriculum influences students' learning, interest in
science, and preparation for the workforce by using quantitative and
qualitative methods to understand different cognitive and affective
factors, using instruments that produce reliable and valid results to
inform, evaluate, and improve instruction, understanding instructors'
decisions about the use of assessments to inform instruction. Their
research interests are also targeted to understand the experiences of
underrepresented students in STEM and how they influence students'
performance in chemistry and their persistence in chemistry courses
and in STEM related careers. Another research interest is focused on
the characterization and effectiveness of the analytical chemistry
curriculum. About the Department of Chemistry The Department of
Chemistry maintains a teaching program of excellence at the
undergraduate level and a graduate program emphasizing cutting-edge
research in the chemistry of the environment, novel materials, and
biological systems. The Department's curriculum, faculty, library, and
facilities of the department are accredited by the American Chemical
Society. Categories: University & Alumni
