To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, which marked the beginning of queer liberation, AIGA Portland Design for Good [https://portland.aiga.org/programs/social-change/] and Wilde Town [https://www.wildetown.com/] collaborated with 25 gay rights PIONEERS WHO CHAMPIONED VISIBILITY, equality and inclusion in PORTLAND. We captured stories of their contributions from the first legislative guide to gay rights, to the world’s longest running drag performance. Design artifacts by artists that spotlight the activists’ profound efforts will be on display in the Galeria at PLACE, a landscape architecture firm in Northwest PORTLAND, from June 24–29. A public reception will be held on Thursday, June 27 from 7:00–9:00 PM. As we celebrate how far we’ve come, we recognize that some members of early liberation movements are going back into the closet due to fears of discrimination in elderly health and social services. We hope this exhibition will help empower people of all generations, orientations and gender identities with the tools to be themselves and STAY OUT!
