Johnstown Pride is the largest community festival in Cambria County
that celebrates the diversity of the region specifically for the
LGBTQ+ community and our allies. Locally, Johnstown Pride is produced
by the Keystone Alliance/Gaylife Newsletter and is dedicated to
improving the quality of life for and the visibility of the members of
our community. Johnstown Pride, held in downtown Johnstown in Central
Park, has grown from a few dozen people in 1999 to over the years and
locations to roughly 2,000 people in 2024 in Central Park.
2014 was a momentous year for Pennsylvania’s LGBTQ+ community as
marriage equality became legal on May 20, 2014. While this was a
tremendous step forward for equality, Pennsylvania is one of the only
states that still does not have a state-wide anti-discrimination law.
We need to ensure that LGBTQ+ people will not be discriminated against
at work, in housing, or at businesses. In addition, people who are
transgender continue to face unique challenges at school, work, and in
their communities. By participating in Johnstown Pride, you are
demonstrating your support that everyone should be treated equally and
with dignity and respect.
A new Johnstown Pride Queen will be announced, and applications will
be available soon.
Our Board, staff, volunteers, straight allies, and supporting
organizations and businesses that support this event work hard to put

you then will need to obtain a $20 permit from the City of Johnstown.
Otherwise, there is no cost. A very special thank you to Locher
Candles and Ken Locher for supporting the event. We are very grateful.
