The Allegheny Lead Safe Homes Program, a program that is within the
Department of Economic Development, offers families with young
children an opportunity to have their homes tested for lead-based
paint. If lead-based paint is found in the home, then the Lead Safe
Homes Program will hire a certified lead contractor to come and remove
or stabilize the paint at little to no cost based on qualifications.
Most homes in Allegheny County contain lead-based paint as they were
built prior to 1978, the year lead paint was banned for residential
use, so it is quite common in our region. The Lead Safe Homes Program
was created to address this issue and has made over 280 homes lead
safe in Allegheny County since 2016.
See you at 41st and Willow Street!
