Join Grid Magazine at the BOK Bar for Grid Alive and the continuation
of the 2030 Series where we will look at the past, present and future
of sustainable infrastructure and parks use in Philadelphia. This
month will feature conversations with two of Grids journalists and
City's Chief Information Office Mark Wheeler covering these
issues. Grid staff writer Bernard Billy Brown discuss his coverage of
flooding in Eastwick and the potential for more from the FDR Park
redesign and Anisa George will take Grid readers on her journey to why
she decided to speak out through her pen to let the community know
about the potential loss of the South Philly Meadows and what that
means for Philadelphians. The City's Chief Information Officer Mark
Wheeler Anisa George is a Philly-based writer, mother, theater artist,
forest therapy guide, and aspiring farmer. Her work focuses on the
intersection of ecology, culture, and performance. Her plays have been
seen at The Public Theater, Ice Factory Festival, Philadelphia
International Festival, Fringe Arts, and the Edinburgh Fringe
Festival. Her written work can be found in the American Poetry Review,
Iowa Review, Emergence Magazine and The Hopper. Bernard Billy Brown is
a writer, podcaster, environmental educator and environmental
organizer who strives to spark a love of the natural world in others
and hopes to move them to protect it. Billys a staff writer for Grid
where he has been covering environmental injustices through the loss
of tree canopy in Cobbs Creek and other parts of Philadelphia. His
current work covers the proposed redesign and potential loss of
natural habitat in Cobbs Creek. Billy is also the author of the
forthcoming book due out in July Exploring Philly Nature: A Guide for
All Four Seasons.
