Workshop 2: Focus on standing postures. The standing postures are a
context to begin preparing the body and mind for similar shapes,
actions and movements in the later seated postures. We actively
increase ranges of motion, develop balance, gain energy, increase our
skill in practicing tristana (the three pillars of the this type of
practice) and thus our ability to concentrate. If you are someone who
has not learned the primary series, or has not learned it from a
Mysore teacher, you may still attend this workshop. This is a 6 part
study and practice series covering the primary series. The workshops
will happen over the next 6 months- once per month. The combination of
postures and transitions in the first series is meant to create a
balance between strength and flexibility. We will look at how to take
advantage of this, and how the practice works on the mind. In addition
to working through the postures and transitions in the first series,
we will also cover aspects of the following topics. -Action &
Counteraction-Stages of postures & transitions + options-Movement
Quality, Cadence and Strength -Hip, knee & ankle functions and
forward folding-Yoga Tradition and what that means for practice
today-Diaphragmatic Breathing-Vinyasa count
