Description Participants will receive a two-year American Red Cross
Lifeguard Certification. To successfully complete this course,
participants must: Pass a perquisite swimming skills evaluation
Complete all online course content prior to the corresponding
in-person skills sessions Attend the entire course and participate in
all class sessions Actively participate in all course activities,
including skill practices, skill drills, activities, and scenarios
Demonstrate proficiency in all skills Pass the final written exam with
a minimum grade of 80 percent Pass three final skill assessments The
prerequisite swimming skills evaluation includes two parts and takes
place during the first in person session. Participants must pass the
prerequisite skills evaluation in order to advance in the course.
Prerequisite 1 - Swim-Tread-Swim Sequence: Jump in, fully submerge to
bottom of pool (7ft or more), resurface, and swim 150 yards
continuously, tread water for 2 minutes, and then swim another 50
yards. While swimming you must keep your face in the water to
demonstrate good breath control. You may swim using front crawl,
breaststroke, or a combination of both. Swimming on the back or side
is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed. When treading, you must
maintain position as surface with head above the water and use only
your legs. Prerequisite 2 - Timed Event: Complete a timed event within
1 minute, 40 seconds. Participant will start in the water, swim about
20 yards with face in or out of the water, submerge to retrieve a
10-pound object, then swim on your back with 10-pound object on chest
back to starting point. Both hands must remain on the brick while
swimming. Participant must exit the water without using a ladder or
the steps. Swim goggles are NOT allowed. This course follows a blended
learning model, which combines online coursework with in-person
sessions. You will receive an email from the American Red Cross with
instructions for accessing the online course content. All assigned
online course modules will need to be completed at least 2 days prior
to the corresponding in-person session. This class will take place at
