A remarkable—and too often overlooked—Hungarian hero of the
American Revolution is coming to CHARLESTON! Colonel Michael Kováts
de Fabriczy was a Hungarian hussar who helped organize and train
Pulaski’s Legion, brought European light-cavalry traditions to the
American cause, and gave his life defending Charleston on May 11,
1779.
As part of America’s 250th anniversary, the Hungarian National Dance
Ensemble will present LAND OF THE FREE, a spectacular new production
bringing Kováts’s story to life through exhilarating dance,
authentic Hungarian folk music, vibrant costumes, and
Revolutionary-era storytelling.
