Join our 9th ANNUAL TRIBUTE TO THOSE LOST IN THE SERVICE OF OUR
COUNTRY. Pay your respects this MEMORIAL DAY WITH A WALK THROUGH THE
NATIONAL CEMETERY MEMPHIS AT 3568 TOWNES AVE - just off Jackson Ave at
9:30am. The boyscouts have installed a flag on each of the 42000+
graves of the men and women who have served our country. We will meet
just outside the gate. You can park along the streets inside the
CEMETERY. We will pay our respects to the many soldiers including a
Medal of Honor winner, explore the branches of service, the service
campaigns, and the variety of religious symbols on the headstones.
There are a couple of nice statues/monuments. Bring some coins
(pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters) and learn about what coins left
on military gravestones represent. Walk is on pavement and in the
grass - bring your cameras. This easy walk should take about an hour.
We walk a lot in the grass so expect wet feet (from the dew). No pets
please.http://www.cem.va.gov/cems/nchp/memphis.asp
