In 2019, Blount Mansion realized a long-cherished goal with the
republication of William H. Masterson's 1954 book William Blount, the
only biography of the man who built Blount Mansion, signed the U.S.
Constitution, and shepherded Tennessee into statehood. The original
publisher, Louisiana State University Press, granted permission for us
to republish a limited number of copies. On Thursday evening, January
30th, University of Tennessee History Professor Dr. Chris Magra will
present a critical analysis of Masterson's work, including possible
new avenues of research for scholars interested in Blount and his
times. Dr. Magra is a critically acclaimed author and an award-winning
teacher who has published two books on the maritime dimensions of the
American Revolution. Our program will begin with a light reception at
5:30 p.m., followed by Dr. Magra's presentation at 6:00 p.m. The cost
is $5 per person, and both the reception and lecture will take place
inside the Blount Mansion Visitors Center.
