INNOVATION SUMMIT, we will explore themes of equity, diversity and
intergenerational community engagement with a goal of expanding AGING
INNOVATION IN AUSTIN. We welcome entrepreneurs, researchers,
investors, city leaders, business leaders, nonprofits, older adults,
caregivers and individuals interested in the AGING CONVERSATION.
AGENDA: 9:30 a.m.: Registration 10 a.m.: Opening Keynote
Presentation: Our keynote speaker is Jewel Mullen, M.D., M.P.H.,
M.P.A. She is the associate dean for health equity at Dell Medical
School, as well as an associate professor in the school’s population
health and internal medicine departments. She also serves as Director
of Health Equity at Ascension Seton to help meet health equity goals
across its system. Her presentation, titled, "Assuring Optimal Health
for All Older Adults in Austin," will kick off our event. 10:45 –
11 a.m.: Break 11 a.m. Panel: “Welcome to Austin,
Innovators” Dan Bullock, beloved Austin writer, speaker, leadership
consultant and founder of The Mosey Project, will moderate a panel of
representatives from AGING-related businesses currently launching in
Austin. The panel will discuss ways these newcomers are engaging with
the community, working to improve the future of AGING IN AUSTIN AND
ENSURING EQUITY/diversity as they launch their products/services.

Jennifer Hammer, Director of Strategic Partnerships, Silvernest; and
Austin Harkness, Executive Vice President of Operations, Honor.

Breakout session (choose one of three tracks) INNOVATION
TRACK:“The Impact of Women Entrepreneurs in the AGING SPACE” Kerry
Rupp, General Partner, True Wealth Ventures; Jean Anne Booth, CEO and
Founder, UnaliWear; and Yael Katz, CEO, BrainCheck will talk about
their experience supporting or starting a “silver tech” company as
well as the larger impact of women in the industry. Business
Track:“Align Your Business Model with the Longevity Revolution.”
Joe Coughlin, head of the MIT AgeLab, notes that one-third of our
adult lives (8,000 days) can be expected for those living beyond 65
years of age. How can people extend their health span so that these
years are high quality and purposeful? How can businesses partner with
individuals to help make the most of this longevity revolution? From
housing to services to technology there are plenty of examples of what
and what not to do. Ryan Frederick, Founder & CEO
of SmartLiving360.com, an advisory and real estate development firm,
will guide a discussion that gets to the kernel of what’s most
important for consumers and businesses alike in this age of
longevity. Consumer Track:"INNOVATIONS IN EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS FOR
THOSE AGING IN PLACE" Lisa Sepulveda, Community Services Program
Manager, Austin-Travis County EMS, and Tina Tran, State
Director, AARP, will review ideas and insight from both Austin and
Houston perspectives. 2 – 2:45 p.m.: Breakout session (choose one
of three tracks) INNOVATION TRACK: "Senior Housing: Breaking New
Ground" Heather Potts, Mature Market Consultant, will moderate this
panel of professionals pursuing innovative housing projects in Central
TEXAS. They’ll discuss the vision, as well as the rewards and
challenges of bringing these projects to fruition. Panelists: Rose M.
Saenz, LVN, CALM, LNFA, MBA, President & Operations
Specialist, RevealSol; Amy Sweet Fichter, Operating Partner,
Tapestry San Marcos; and Julie Ferguson, CBA, LLC. Business
Track: "Survey Says...!" In the summer of 2019, the AGING SERVICES
COUNCIL, a collaboration of nonprofit, for-profit and governmental
organizations serving older adults and their caregivers, completed a
five-county needs assessment of individuals over age 60. This session
will outline the results of the assessment and examine how the
identified needs impact the Central TEXAS community. Panelists: Amy
Temperley, Owner, AGING IS COOL; Emmie Knox, Co-chair, AGING
SERVICES COUNCIL and Owner, Assisting Hands Home Care; and Vivian
Daigler, Project Manager, NuStats Consumer Track: “CBD FYI” In
this presentation, Amanda Villarreal, Director of
Development, Arthritis Foundation Central TEXAS, will share the
latest information about the effectiveness and legality of CBD
products, where and how to purchase, and future trends. 3 – 3:30
p.m.: Closing Session: The Austin City:One Challenge is a
public-private collaboration aimed at crowdsourcing ideas that will
transform transportation in and around the east side of Austin. Ford
City INNOVATIONS AND THE CITY OF AUSTIN ARE ENGAGING COMMUNITY MEMBERS
TO COLLABORATE ON MOBILITY SOLUTIONS THAT WOULD IMPROVE ACCESS TO
HEALTHY LIVING. Hannah Barron, Smart Mobility Community Engagement
Manager, Austin Transportation Department | Smart Mobility and Katie
Herbek, Regional Manager for City Solutions, Ford Motor Company will
outline project goals and talk about why older adults are vital to
project success. KEYNOTE SPEAKER Our keynote speaker is Jewel Mullen,

off our event. Mullen is an internist, epidemiologist, public health
leader, and the former principal deputy assistant secretary for health
in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Prior to
her time at HHS, Mullen served for five years as commissioner of the
Connecticut Department of Public Health. Her career has spanned
clinical, research, teaching and administrative roles focused on
improving the health of all people, especially those who are
underserved. She is recognized nationally and internationally as a
leader in building effective community-based chronic disease
prevention programs and for her commitment to improving individual and
population health by strengthening coordination between community,
public health and health care systems. During her tenure as
Connecticut’s public health commissioner, Mullen served as president
of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials and
launched Living Longer Better, a national call to action promoting the
health of older adults and their communities. She also has been a
member of the Alzheimer’s Association and Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention Leadership Committee for the Healthy Brain
