***UPDATE on 03/13/2020****To the whole PAL Austin community—
Thank you so much for your notes and messages of support this last
week. It is with a heavy heart that we have decided to postpone Battle
of the Badges.
State and local officials are overwhelmingly clear that cancelling
large events like ours is in the best interest of public health, not
to mention our colleagues on the front lines in police, fire, and EMS.
Battle of the Badges is our signature annual fundraiser, a boxing
tournament that pits police against other first responder groups for
year-long bragging rights in Austin. Battle of the Badges was
scheduled to take place Saturday, April 18th at the Palmer Events
Center.
While we hope and pray to have made it through the worst of COVID-19
by mid-April, we are taking the most conservative possible approach.
It is important to know that we are postponing, not cancelling Battle
of the Badges. The new date will remain TBD but we'll be in touch as
soon as we know.
If you purchased a table, ticket, or sponsorship, we will honor your
contribution at the rescheduled event. Thank you for your grace.
If you're wondering what you can do to help PAL during this time, we
simply ask that you still purchase your ticket to Battle of the
Badges. We want to see you there no matter when we reschedule. Your
show of support means the world.
Alternatively, you can donate on our website.
PAL officers regularly visit kids at their schools, in their
neighborhoods, and on the sports fields to foster trust and
communication between youth and law enforcement.
In addition, PAL offers athletic activities, wellness programs, and
educational events to at-risk youth to guide them toward making
healthy choices and achieving success in life.
Any and all monies we raise go directly to this mission. And every
little bit counts.
Thank you again. Whether you're just getting to know PAL or have been
with us a long time, please know that we're still here to serve, and
we'll keep as many of our daily and weekly programs open as possible
(more on that next week).
We also want to thank our hardworking Board, and both our event
partners and sponsors, without whom Battle of the Badge would not be
possible on any date. Finally, thank you to our friends, our family,
and our colleagues who signed up to participate or volunteer. We
appreciate you all so much.
We'll find time to fight another day. Right now, take care of yourself
and each other.
Please stay safe,
Sergeant David BoydJames Russell, Board Chair

participate in our health-based programs.
