Are you curious about how to incorporate SOLUTIONS JOURNALISM INTO
YOUR TEACHING? Ready to dig deeper into your approach? Eager to
connect with like-minded EDUCATORS?This hands-on workshop for
college-level journalism educators will equip you with a range of
tools and approaches to teach solutions journalism to your students.
We'll meet at UT Austin, where we’ll share the basics, as well as a
range of strategies and approaches that you can apply in your
classroom. We will provide a continental breakfast, and lunch.
WORKSHOP LEADERS:
SARA CATANIA is director of journalism school partnerships for the
Solutions Journalism Network and an adjunct journalism instructor at
the University of Southern California's Annenberg School for
Communication and Journalism. She serves on the program committee for
Stanford's JSK Journalism Fellowship, where she was a fellow, and
supports the ONA's Women's Leadership Accelerator as a mentor and
advisor. Her journalism experience includes digital leader and
newsroom manager, grounded in years of reporting , writing and editing
at a wide range of news outlets including the Los Angeles Times,
Reuters, Mother Jones, the LA Weekly and NBC.
HOLLY WISE is the Texas regional manager for the Solutions Journalism
Network. She teaches journalism at Texas State University and spent
last year teaching solutions journalism in Bangalore, India, as a
Fulbright Scholar. She is the former director of journalism school
partnerships at SJN.

WHO SHOULD COME TO THIS WORKSHOP?
College-level journalism educators who want to incorporate solutions
journalism into their teaching, deepen their approach if they're
already teaching it, and connect with like-minded educators.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
There is a $25 per-person event fee.
WHERE IS THE WORKSHOP LOCATED?
The workshop will be held at the Belo Center for New Media, 300 West
Dean Keeton Street (off Guadalupe Street).
HOW DO I GET THERE?
If you're taking public transit take Cap Metro buses 1, 3, 801, 803 to
UT Dean Keeton stop (northbound and southbound).
WHAT IF I'M DRIVING? WHERE DO I PARK?
There is on-street metered parking on Dean Keeton and Whitis Streets.
There are also a couple of nearby parking garages: the 27th Street
Garage (109 W 27th Street) and San Antonio Garage (2420 San Antonio
Street).
SHOULD I DO ANYTHING TO PREPARE?
Yes! About a week before the workshop we'll email materials to
everyone who’s registered.
