Speculative Futures

Speculative Futures Austin is a component chapter of the global Speculative Futures community.
Speculative Futures is a community of Meetup groups for those interested in Speculative Design, Critical Design, Design Fiction, Discursive Design, Strategic Foresight, Futures Studies, Science Fiction and any vision or approach which involves using design as a vehicle to speculate about potential or alternate futures. Speculative Futures is an effort steered by the Design Futures Initiative.
We host speakers — practitioners, teachers, students, and other professionals who will be talking about relevant praxis and methods. We also host workshops which will allow you to learn how to conduct and apply futures thinking in a variety of circumstances as a method of synthesis and strategy.
The Design Futures Initiative is a nonprofit 501c3 organization based in San Francisco, CA.
The Core Purpose of the Design Futures Initiative (DFI) is to host Speculative Futures Meetups, organize the PRIMER US and EU conferences, and further educational efforts to apply Futures Methods to Design.
