MANY OF OUR FAVORITE WINES ARE OF THE PINOT NOIR VARIETAL. THAT IS WHY
WE ARE EXCITED TO WELCOME KEN FOSTER TO GOODY GOODY FOR AN EVENING
FULL OF INSIGHT AND EDUCATION INTO THE DELICATE WORLD OF PINOT NOIR
FROM CARNEROS, MONTERREY, AND SONOMA COAST!Carneros Wine Company is a
collaboration between Francis Mahoney and Ken Foster, who have a
combined 75 years of experience growing grapes and making wine. In
1974, Francis built the first winery since prohibition in Carneros,
years before the viticultural area was established.
Inspired by the wines of Burgundy, and disappointed in California
Pinot Noir, his focus was to grow and make Pinot Noir in a cooler
climate, with a focus on understanding clonal, soil and rootstock
differences in his wines. He traveled all over California selecting
budwood to plant from Pinot producers whose wines he admired, and
began a decades-long experiment in search of selections that made the
best wines on his sites.
For 30 years, those trials shaped the wines of Carneros Creek, and now
are the sole components of the Mahoney Vineyards wines. Francis farms
about 140 acres in Carneros, at the Las Brisas and Mahoney Ranch
vineyards, 65 percent of which contains about a dozen different clones
of PINOT NOIR.
In addition to the lecture portion, attendees will also have the
opportunity to experience several gorgeous wines, including:
