ARTIST STATEMENT
“My artwork is made through a series of life experiences. As an
individual, it allows me to recreate an interpretation of reality. The
struggles of being a person of color influence my emotions towards
religious beliefs and societal issues. Growing up in a family of
Christian faith, my spiritual views have played an important role
within the use of color. Societal issues of gentrification and borders
are represented throughout the composition with Mexican American
symbols and a color palette.
I have an interest in exploring these ideas through the use of oil
paint and charcoal which best allows me to express a sentimental,
passionate and aggressive depiction of my visual language.
The intention is to use scenes and experiences from my everyday life
while adapting imagery of Mexican American traditions to create a
unique composition of color, symbols and historical events.”
