TMJ Diagnosis and Treatment Planning: Lecture/ Workshop with TMJ Dissection
Saturday, June 15, 2019 for Dentists
Course Summary:
This lecture/laboratory program is designed to provide the experienced clinical dentist or specialist with a comprehensive overview of the temporomandibular joint differential diagnosis and treatment.
Because of the unique and complex bi-articulation, a review of the anatomy and biomechanics are merited in understanding the TMJ disorders. A detailed step by step approach to a thorough clinical examination will be presented.Clinical relvance and simple management will be discussed.
The significance of muscle disorders in the management of orofacial pain will be discussed. TMJ imaging and cone beam techniques will also be reviewed to improve the understanding of TMJ imaging. At the completion of this presentation, the practitioner will have a comprehensive understanding of the significance of occlusion in temporomandibular function and dysfunction, the nature of displacement of the articular disc, and the treatment options available.
Taught by three experts in their field of study, this course provides the participants with a unique learning experience to fully understand the complexity of TMJ/TMD disorders. A one of a kind program, multidisciplinary in the teaching approach.
Hands-on Cadaver TMJ Dissection in the afternoon session:
This intensive, hands-on program will enhance the understanding of the temporomandibular joint, in that the participants will have the unique opportunity to work closely with anatomist, Dr. Robert Spears in performing a detailed dissection of the TMJ and muscles of mastication on fresh cadaver heads.
Almost exclusively a laboratory program, Dr. Spears will begin the afternoon with a lecture which will review in detail the joint and surrounding tissues. Participants will then have an opportunity to dissect and view the anatomic structures presented. At the completion of this laboratory, the practitioner will have a comprehensive understanding of the anatomy of the temporomandibular joint, the muscle attachments, and innervations of the joint.
