Al Kuntar is Assistant Director of the Cultural Heritage Preservation Program (CHAPS) at Rutgers University. She is a National Geographic Emerging Explorer award recipient, as well as Chair of the Board for the Syrians for Heritage (SIMAT) Association, based in Berlin, Germany. Her research interests center upon the archaeology of the Near East, ancient economy and urbanism, human mobility and cultural boundaries, forced migration, archaeology, and cultural heritage.
Dr. Al Kuntar will discuss her advocacy related to ancient Syrian and Iraqi cultural heritage preservation and her work with international organizations such as the Penn Museum and the Smithsonian Institution.
