“The personal is POLITICAL” Audre Lorde reminds US. By just living
and breathing in our everyday lives, we are POLITICAL BEINGS. As poets
and writers, we are the storytellers of the people we come from. In
this WORKSHOP, expect rich and honest conversation, expect to read and
discuss contemporary POLITICAL POEMS, expect to leave with a new poem,
and expect to explore how your personhood is related to the big big
world of POLITICS, and expect to learn how to use your everyday
experiences to tell big truths.Desireé Dallagiacomo is a writer,
performer, educator, and space creator. Her book of poetry, SINK
(Button Poetry, 2019), is available here or wherever books are sold in
real life and on the internet. She teaches poetry and trains teaching
artists in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She started teaching in public
schools 10 years ago, and that’s how she learned how to write. In
2016, she founded The Heart of It, an intimate and intensive writing
retreat in the high desert of New Mexico. It started as her passion
project and has become something big and beautiful and great. Des
started performing in poetry slams and open mics in 2009, and she has
been a finalist at every major poetry slam in the United States. She
is the co-host of a Southern Poetry podcast, Drawl. Desireé grew up
