Struggling Readers Series: Comprehension Strategies that Work (3rd-6th)

COMPREHENSION OF TEXT DOES NOT ALWAYS HAPPEN AUTOMATICALLY FOR STUDENTS WHO STRUGGLE WITH READING. Sometimes as educators, we confuse explaining what is happening in the text, with teaching students how to comprehend the text. The STRUGGLING READERS SERIES IS A SERIES OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENTS THAT FOCUS ON THE DIFFERENT FACTORS THAT CAUSE STUDENTS TO STRUGGLE WITH READING. This session, COMPREHENSION STRATEGIES THAT WORK, will provide how to explicitly and directly teach research based STRATEGIES THAT WILL AID WITH COMPREHENSION. This highly engaging workshop will focus on helping dependent READERS BECOME INDEPENDENT READERS BY PROVIDING STRATEGIES FOR STUDENTS THAT HELP THEM TO CONNECT TO PRIOR EXPERIENCES, make inferences, question the text, and much more. The purpose of this workshop is to provide a defined focus into explicit teaching of COMPREHENSION STRATEGIES. **SEATS ARE LIMITED** FAQS WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE? Doors open at 8:00 am and registration will be from 8-8:25 am. The workshop will begin promptly at 8:30 am. WHAT TIME IS LUNCH? Lunch will be on your own from 11:30-12:45.
