WORKSHOP WILL HELP YOU DEVELOP A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF MARX’s
influential role in world history and why his ideas remain
provocative. The ideas of Karl Marx influenced the politics and
economics of nations from the 19th century forward. They spawned
revolutions, wars, and countless followers. His ideas remain
influential today and seem increasingly attractive as some question
the morality and efficiency of free markets. Join us for this
WORKSHOP FOCUSING ON THE LIFE, ideas, and influence of Karl Marx. This
WORKSHOP IS HOSTED BY HBU'S MORRIS FAMILY CENTER FOR LAW & Liberty.
Four university professors from Houston Baptist University will cover
the following topics: 1. The Dream of Karl Marx – Marx’s vision
for a better world as presented in his Communist Manifesto, presented
by Dr. Chris Hammons, Professor of Government. 2. The World of Karl
Marx - The events that influenced Marx's life in 19th century London,
presented by Dr. David Davis, Professor of British History. 3. Marx
and Locke Contrasted - The basis for a global Cold War presented as a
conflict of ideologies, presented by Dr. Scott Robinson, Professor of
Government. 4. The Nightmare of Karl Marx - The failure and cost of
the communist struggle in life, liberty, and property, presented by
Dr. John Tyler, Professor of Law. There is a $20 registration fee for
the WORKSHOP. The registration fee includes lunch, snacks, a copy of
Marx’s Communist Manifesto, and a certificate of participation
documenting four hours of professional development, certified through

FAQs What will the day look like? This half-day WORKSHOP WILL BE HELD
ON THE CAMPUS OF FOUNDERS CLASSICAL ACADEMY IN SCHERTZ, Texas.
Registration opens at 8:30am (coffee will be available) and the first
session starts at 9:00am. Each session will last 50 minutes. There
will be three sessions on Marx in the morning, lunch, a fourth session
after lunch, and a brief final session for additional questions and
exploring teaching strategies. The event will end at 2:30pm. The
presenters will be available after the program for additional
questions or discussion. Where can I park on campus? You can park
anywhere on campus. There will be signs directing you to the
appropriate room on campus for the WORKSHOP. What can I bring into
the event? A pen and a note pad are a good idea. Food and drink will
be provided, but if you have any special dietary needs you should
