Mayor Mike Caldwell of Ogden, the Office of Recreation's Director, Tom
Adams, and Cache County Trails and Active Transport Planner, Dayton
Crites, will talk about the economic impact the outdoor community has
on city/county economics and how the outdoor industry plays a vital
role in community culture and branding.
This event will provide council members, outdoor business leaders, and
community officials an opportunity to hear how one city has benefited
from adopting pro-outdoor policies as well as understand how a
rural-urban area like Logan can strategically plan its community to
create a desirable environment where outdoor businessess and
activities thrive.

Mike Caldwell is a visionary leader. Now in his second term as
Ogden’s Mayor, Caldwell continues to put local economic development
at the forefront of his agenda. Caldwell’s work during his first
Mayoral term resulted in national acclaim for Ogden with Forbes’,
Money magazine, and Newsweek among others touting the city’s ability
to adapt to change and find success.
TOM ADAMS, DIRECTOR, Governor's Office of Recreation
Tom Adams has been dedicated to Utah’s outdoor recreation industry
for over 25 years. During that time, his passions in life have
consistently followed his career path hand in hand. From the N.A.
Sales Director for Petzl to a Ski Instructor at Brighton, it has been
Tom’s personal goal to make every aspect of the outdoor industry
more enjoyable and accessible for his clients, friends and family. Now
as the Director of Outdoor Recreation for the State of Utah he helps
to ensure that each resident or visitor will have the best possible
resources to enjoy the range of outdoor recreation opportunities that
Utah offers.
DAYTON CRITES, CACHE COUNTY TRAILS AND ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION PLANNER
Dayton Crites works as the Cache County Trails and Active
Transportation Planner. He brings to this position over a decade of
passion for human powered transportation and adventure, and the
conviction that if we build places for people, we can create a better
world. His education and adventures have resulted in an MLA from
Utah State University, private sector experience with Design
Workshop and Alta Planning+Design, and experiences building and
exploring trails along coastal California, canyons of the San Rafael
and fjords of Patagonia.
