Seth YACOVONE BAND, an eclectic blend of blues, rock, americana, funk,
metal and jam influences, was born in Burlington VT in 1995. The band
started after then 15-year-old Seth YACOVONE (guitarist, vocalist) won
some studio time at a guitar contest and a band was formed and gigs
were booked. After two albums as Seth YACOVONE BLUES BAND, the quartet
with Luke Boggess (Harmonica and vocals) ended. Tommy Coggio (bassist
1996- 2010) remained with Seth as the band transformed into the trio
format in 1999, shortly after the arrival of Steve Hadeka (drummer)
who pushed Seth musically and the band began to explore music beyond
straight blues, shortening the name to Seth YACOVONE BAND (SYB).
Bringing the songs of YACOVONE TO LIFE, the trio brought excitement to
the Northeast music scene and beyond, creating music that defied their
traditional blues reputation and pushed the band further. Seth was
invited as a guest of the band Phish in 1998, joining the group for a
performance of his original song “All the Pain Through the Years”
and a cover of the Derek the Dominoes classic “Layla”, exposing
Seth and SYB to a whole new audience.
With the lineup solidified, Seth Yacovone Band began recording the
first album under that name, "Dannemora," in 1999, released in 2000
followed by “Standing on the Sound” in 2001, and a live album
“In a Moment” in 2003. These albums along with constant road
worked helped solidify SYB’s reputation as a passionate, fiery live
improvisational rock n roll band with songs to back it up.
During this time, SYB opened for legendary acts such as BB King, Ray
Charles, Dr. John. The Neville Brothers, Johnny Winter, Little Feat,
Trey Anastasio and Gov’t Mule. The band toured from Maine to Florida
to Colorado and two trips to Italy, where crowds ate up the band’s
blues rock weirdness.
Despite their rising success, the journey was not without its
challenges. The pressures of constant touring and the demands of the
music industry took a toll on the band. Calling it quits in 2005, they
reunited for runs in 06 and 09. Seth made a double album with Steve
Hadeka on drums in 2008, “Land of Split Decision” with a Vermont
all-star cast featuring many SYB fan favorites.
In 2013, Bassist Alex Budney joined forces with Steve and Seth, and
after a few rehearsals, it was decided that this was in fact, a new
version of Seth Yacovone Band and the wheels started turning. Seth
Yacovone Band was back, made stronger than ever due to the rock- solid
chemistry of Budney and Hadeka propelling Yacovone on to higher
heights and a more consistent overall package. With maturity and
years, the lineup “Going to 11” andbeyond, a true group mind,
unattainable without musicians spending years playing together, has
emerged, at the best times the three playing as one. Two albums have
been released, 2016’s “Shovel Down”, 2018’s “Welcome” as
well as an EP “Thanks”, answering longtime fans wishes for brand
new Seth Yacovone Band recordings. The band has continued to be a
powerful live act, finding new avenues and a harder edged sound.
Seth Yacovone Band is a testament to their unwavering passion for
music and bringing people together through live music. Ignoring
trends, fads or expectations, they’ve displayed a commitment to
following their muses, wherever they may lead.
As they continue to create and perform, Seth Yacovone Band remain
dedicated to pushing the boundaries of their music, seeking honesty in
dishonest times.
