"There is a reason human beings have been DANCING EVER SINCE THEY
DISCOVERED FIRE AND INVENTED DRUMS. It's good for your soul, great
exercise, develops better balance, promotes muscular coordination,
wards off dementia, and you'll get your recommended quota of at least
6 daily hugs."
JIMMY'S OLD TOWN TAVERN (6:00PM - 6:50PM)
Come join us for HAPPY HOUR AND INFORMAL DANCE LESSONS IN THE
ARGENTINE TANGO. To start out, we'll meet at JIMMY'S OLD TOWN TAVERN
(697 Spring St. HERNDON VA) at around 6:00 for HAPPY HOUR AND OR
DINNER. At Jimmy's we'll be in the lower section just beyond the bar
area.
HERNDON Sr. Center (7:00PM - 9:30PM)
Then at around 6:50, we'll take a short drive to the HERNDON Senior
Center (873 Grace St # 1, HERNDON, VA 20170). If you like to skip the
HAPPY HOUR GET TOGETHER AND MEET US AT THE SR. Center at 7pm, no
worries. Just be sure to wander up and say hi so I know you're from
the meetup.
The following is from Nancy who runs the event at the Sr. Center...
"I hope you can join us for free Argentine TANGO LESSONS AND DANCING
MONDAY EVENING'S 7-9:30pm. Even if you’ve never tried it before, we
target the instruction to each individual’s level. Great music,
provided by our excellent DJs, plays all evening, so everyone has the
option to dance the whole evening, or after participating in the
instruction. I hope you will be able to come for this great
opportunity."
I've been to a few of the Monday evening events and have throughly
enjoyed myself but they aren't formal lessons and it helps to be
proactive in wanting to learn. The way it works is a section of the
floor is blocked off and more experienced dancers happily spend time
offering beginners some very basic instruction. All levels are welcome
from beginners, like myself, who really don't know what they're doing,
to seasoned veterans.
If you're new to TANGO, particularly Argentine TANGO, I stumbled
across the following YouTube video documentary called "The Heart of
TANGO" that is quite artistic even the voice over. It's not really a
How-To video but more of a What-Is video.

A few quick pointers for Social DANCING NEWBIES LIKE ME:-)
Make sure you wear shoes that allow your feet to turn easily. Street
shoes with smooth leather soles, sneakers with duct tape, or suede
patches that are designed to glue on the bottoms of shoes to convert
them to dance shoes.
For ladies who wear dress shoes, it helps to have heels, not just
straps, so you can step backwards briskly without your shoes slipping
down.
