2020 International Nitrocellulose Symposium

An international forum to discuss technical-scientific aspects of nitrocellulose production, safety, performance, and characterization.

You are invited to attend, submit a paper or poster, and participate in the 9th International Nitrocellulose Symposium, May 18 – 21, 2020 at the Lansdowne Resort & Spa, Leesburg, VA, USA.

This series of workshops is a biennial technical meeting that is an informal and friendly forum for the discussion of all aspects of nitrocellulose supply, characterization and aging.  It started in 2001 and was originally an informal UK working group with an interest in nitrocellulose characterization with a particular emphasis on molecular weight determination.  In subsequent years it has been sponsored and hosted by AWE, Cranfield University, General Dynamics – Canada, Manuco, Rheinmetall Nitrochemie, TNO, and the UK MOD, and has grown to 50+ delegates from twenty different organizations and eight different countries.

Previous themes have included:

Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC) Analysis • Chemical and physical characterization • Chemical stability, aging, and shell life • Cellulose supply • Nitrocellulose manufacturing, processing and supply • Propellant manufacture • Propellant ballistics • Disposal • International standardization and national test methodologies (including updates on international round robins in support of STANAG 4178 ed2).
