76th Annual Golden Gloves

Reserved \& General Admission AVAILABLE at the door The Tacoma Athletic Commission (TAC) is proud to present the 76th Annual Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament on January 25, 2025. This event is the longest consecutive tournament running west of the Mississippi. The TAC is proud of its role of leadership in Tacoma-Pierce County Athletics. The Golden Gloves Tournament is a major fundraising event of the TAC which in turn has allowed the TAC to financially support many local athletes and provide improvements to many sports facilities over the last 76 years. Athletes like Olympic Gold Medalist Kay Hall, Boxing Gold Medalists Sugar Ray Seales and Leo Randolph, Bronze Medalist David Lee Armstrong, golfer Mark Sivara, gymnast Roni Barrlos, and track star Aaron Williams all were assisted by the TAC in route to national and international championships. Baseball star Ron Cey and footballs Ahmad Rashad (then Bobby Moore) began their careers in Boys and Girls Clubs programs aided by the TAC. Our Golden Gloves program is designed to encourage a positive lifestyle for young people. Some of Tacomas greats began their amateur and professional careers as Golden Gloves champions. The list of best known include Freddie Steele, Pat McMurtry, Sugar Ray Seales, Leo Randolph, Davey Armstrong, Mylon Watkins, Rocky Lockridge, Johnny Bumphus and Emmett Linton Jr. These athletes could not have reached national prominence without the support of the Pierce County community. The Names Family and Scotts Athletic Supply were stalwarts in supporting these athletes. Over the years, uniforms, gauze, tape, and protective gear were graciously donated. In addition, monetary contributions were made to help defer travel expenses. The Tacoma Golden Gloves is sanctioned as the venue for the State of Washington Amateur Boxing Championships. However, teams travel throughout the northwest and as far as Canada and Alaska to participate in this tradition-rich event. Champions in each weight classification advance to the regional tournament.
