Description This American Red Cross course is intended for currently
certified lifeguards wishing to maintain their certification and/or
update to the new 2024 American Red Cross Lifeguarding material. It
includes a brief review of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Course,
updates and changes, and the practical and written final examinations.
COURSE PREREQUISITES
To enroll in the Lifeguarding Re-certification Course, you must be at
least 15 years of age before the last scheduled class session, a
currently certified American Red Cross Lifeguard. Please bring proof
of age and certification on the first day (driver's license, state
identification, birth certificate, or passport). To participate in the
course, you must be able to demonstrate the following skills:
Swim-Tread-Swim Sequence: Jump into the water from the side, totally
submerge, recover to the surface and swim 150 yards. After swimming
150 yards, maintain position at the surface of the water without
support for 2 minutes by treading (using only legs). After maintaining
position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes, swim 50 more
yards.
Timed Event: Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or
breaststroke, surface dive 7 to 10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound brick,
return to the surface, swim 20 yards on the back to return to the
starting point with both hands on the brick and exit the water without
using a ladder or steps. Must be completed within 1 minute and 40
seconds. Swim goggles are not allowed. Candidates should not swim the
return distance underwater.
Please bring a swimsuit and towel for the skills evaluation on the
first day and for every class.
REQUIRED MATERIALS
All course materials are included in the cost of this course.
COURSE COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS
100% attendance (no exceptions), 80% on the written exam, and
successfully complete required skills and final skills scenarios.
COURSE CERTIFICATION
Upon successful completion of the Lifeguarding Re-certification
Course, each participant will receive an American Red Cross
Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional
Rescuers and First Aid certification.
