Legislative Conference: ‘Making It Happen’ » On the first day of
Lunar New Year (January 25, 2020) from 1 to 6 p.m., the Spokane
CHINESE ASSOCIATION WILL HOST A LUNAR NEW YEAR CELEBRATION (including
a Culture Fair, Storytelling, and Performances) at The University High
School (12420 E 32nd Ave, SPOKANE VALLEY, WA 99216). This year’s
theme of the celebration is “Descendants of the Dragon in Spokane:
Our Culture, Our Stories”. Please bring your family and friends to
the celebration and share in our traditional culture and art.
Activities are open to the public without charge. The Lunar New Year
Cultural Fair will be held at the University High School Common Area
from 1 to 4 p.m. on January 25th. The cultural fair will include
CHINESE CALLIGRAPHY AND PAINTING PERFORMANCES BY MR. Wang Zongren and
his students, together with hand paper cutting and traditional CHINESE
CHESS SETS. It will also have fun games such as loops and jumping
ropes. In addition, there are opportunities for parents to enjoy
CHINESE LANGUAGE EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY GROUP INTRODUCTION, as well
as other wonderful cultural activities. Parents and children will be
able to recognize and appreciate the charm of CHINESE CULTURE AND ARTS
IN THESE ACTIVITIES. In the 2020 Lunar New Year Celebration, SCA will
dedicate a brand new program to the greater Spokane community i.e.
“Storytelling of CHINESE IMMIGRANTS”. We will have storytellers
including Ping Ping’s humorous story, which won first place in the
Humorous Speech Category of the 9th District of Toastmaster
International 2019, touching stories by CHINESE IMMIGRANT
ENTREPRENEURS IN SPOKANE, and others. These stories will open a window
for people of Spokane to “see” who we are. It will also deepen our
own community‘s understanding of our internal world. The
storytelling is from 3 to 3: 45 pm at Theater of University High
School. It is free to the public. From 4:30 to 6 pm, the Lunar New
Year Show will be held at the University High School Auditorium.
Having served the community for 18 years, Spokane CHINESE DANCE GROUP,
led by captain Mary Zhang, will perform CHINESE TRADITIONAL FOLK
DANCES. Spokane CHINESE CHOIR WILL BRING YOU SONGS IN BOTH CHINESE AND
ENGLISH. Lion dance, magic, and other talent programs will bring
variety to the stage. Spokane CHINESE CHURCH CHOIR & Band, with more
than 50 members, are busy practicing their programs and looking
