_Seize fate by the throat!_
Our April Concert features two premieres and a classic - perhaps *the*
classic. THALIA SYMPHONY IS PROUD TO PRESENT THE WORLD PREMIERE OF
ANNYEONG (goodbye) by SEATTLE composer GREEN SEO. Seo is an
accomplished composer of music for film and video (and our principal
bassist). We will be giving the West Coast premiere of the Violin
Concerto by Irish composer INA BOYLE (1889-1967). Written in 1933
(revised 1935), the work is contemplative and wistful, dedicated to
her mother who had recently passed away. It is also offers a glimpse
of pre-war Ireland, before the Emergency of 1939-1946. Our soloist
will be noted SEATTLE violinist VICTORIA PARKER. Born into a musical
family, she has been a frequent soloist in the Northwest and beyond.
She is a founding member of the North Corner Chamber Orchestra and
regularly performs with the SEATTLE SYMPHONY AND SEATTLE OPERA.
Concluding the program will be LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN'S (1770-1827)
Symphony No. 5. Perhaps the single most recognizable piece in the
symphony orchestra literature, it has been thrilling and moving
audiences since its premiere in Vienna in 1808. With this performance,
we also commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe. -Joseph
