_Scholar N. T. Wright will convey how the pursuit of truth in every
academic endeavor is deeply intertwined with who Jesus was and
is._World-renowned scholar N. T. Wright will address Madison’s
university community at Upper House on Thursday, April 16, at 12:00
p.m. The claim of Professor Wright’s lecture, “Jesus, the
University, and the Pursuit of Truth,” is that what Jesus did and
who Jesus was offers shape and energy to every academic and human
endeavor. Historical knowledge of Jesus of Nazareth can and should
ground a worldview capable of sustaining multidisciplinary
intellectual, social, and personal inquiry.
Wright emphasizes that with the achievement of Jesus comes new
possibilities, not only regarding what we know, but how we know it. By
grounding the pursuit of truth in love, an “epistemology of love”
revives a vital but often ignored feature of human knowing that
enables the university and the broader world to become an agent of the
full restoration of God’s creation that was launched through the
life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus.
N. T. Wright is author of more than 70 books, Research Professor of
New Testament and Early Christianity at the University of St. Andrews,
and Senior Research Fellow at Wycliffe Hall within Oxford University.
The focus of his scholarly expertise is Ancient Judaism and
Christianity, and especially Biblical Studies.
Registration for the lecture and luncheon is $20. Tickets will be
refunded if the event is cancelled.
