Since 2008, Dick has led Protective’s Advanced Sales Team, bringing
his broad expertise in estate and business planning; taxation; trusts;
employee benefits; charitable gifts; and various specialties of
insurance taxation, product knowledge, and case design.
EDUCATION. Dick is a Princeton graduate. After serving with the U.S.
Army 4th Infantry Division, he earned his J.D. at The University of
Wisconsin Law School where he served as Editor, Wisconsin Law Review
Notes & Comments. Dick later earned the Master of Laws in Taxation
(LL.M.) from The National Law Center of George Washington University.
EXPERIENCE. Dick’s career began as Staff Counsel for the U.S.
Senate Judiciary Committee, Trial Attorney for the U.S. Civil
Aeronautics Board, and Staff Attorney with the General Counsel for
Texas International Airlines. After earning the LL.M. degree in
taxation, Dick was in private practice in New Orleans and Northern
Virginia prior to joining the insurance industry, first with Acacia
Life, and then with Protective Life.
PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES. Dick is former Chairman of LIMRA’s Advanced
Sales Committee, an active Member of AALU since 2000; Past President
of the Northern Virginia CHAPTER, Society of Financial Service
Professionals; Member, Northern Virginia Estate PLANNING COUNCIL;
Member, State Bars of Virginia, Texas and Louisiana. He is a frequent
speaker for carrier and industry events. He has authored numerous
articles for the _American Bar Journal,_ _National Life Underwriter,
Broker World, Life Insurance Sellin_g, _Journal of SFSP_, and other
publications.
OUTSIDE OF CAREER, THE IMPORTANT THINGS IN DICK’S LIFE INCLUDE:
* Dick’s daughter, Chelsea, whose husband completed active duty
with the U.S. Army’s 1st Division (“The Big Red One”) serving as
a Black Hawk pilot in various operations in Iraq, South Korea, Germany
and Eastern Europe.
* Dick is an accomplished pianist, composer, and arranger,
collaborating with pro and near-pro musicians, songwriters, vocalists,
and filmmakers located in more than a dozen countries—USA, Canada,
UK, Germany, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Italy, France, Spain,
Brazil, and elsewhere. He performs on piano regularly for LIMRA’s
Advanced Sales Forum, and for the National Capital Chapter of the
Society of Financial Service Professionals at its annual gala dinner
(Professional Night).
