The Watertown Family Center holds an open gym that meets every
Thursday from 9:00 –10:30 am. Children five and under are encouraged
to run, jump, slide and have fun with an adult. They provide balls,
slides, scooters, and more. You provide the energy and imagination.
This is ideal for children from birth through age 5. No registration
is required and Open Gym is FREE! Offered once a week. Watertown
Family Center staff set up a variety of equipment for large
motor-skill development in the Watertown Area YMCA gym. Children five
and under and their parents are provided with a positive outlet for
energy, especially in inclement weather contributed to the tension of
“cabin fever”. In addition to promoting the children’s physical
development, open gym also serves as an opportunity for socialization
and networking, much like the playgroup sessions. Open Gym is held in
the Watertown Area YMCA’s Gym. Please enter thru the YMCA main
entrance on the S. Eighth Street side of building. Boots are not
allowed on the gym floor. Please bring gym shoes or wear socks!
*Note: During the school year, the Watertown Family Center follows
the Watertown Unified School District (WUSD) calendar and is closed
when the WUSD is closed. About the Watertown Family Center: The WFC
has been in existence since 1993. It was started through a
collaborative effort of the Watertown Unified School District (WUSD),
Head Start/CESA, and the Community Action Coalition. During the first
two years of the Center, a broad-based community task force was put
together and a community assessment was done. As a result of the
study, it was concluded that there was a need for more educational
parenting classes and to also fund a family center. In wanting to
increase their collaborative efforts for the family, Watertown
Regional Medical Center (WRMC) became the fiscal agent to the WFC in
1995. The Watertown Family Center was a department of the WRMC, a
non-profit health care organization located in Watertown, Wisconsin
from 1995 thru September 2010. As Fiscal Agent to the WFC all
budgetary issues, including receiving and administering grants, were
handled through the finance department. In 2009, the Watertown Family
Center and WRMC mutually agreed that it was time for the WFC to become
its own 501c3 non-profit. The WFC received its non-profit status on
August 31, 2010. The WFC continues to be fiscally strong and provide
free programming to families in the Watertown area. Related Posts:
