22nd Feb, 03:00 pm Would you like to know how to flirt in French,
introduce yourself in isiXhosa or tell someone what’s what in
German? Then don’t miss out on our event honouring the International
Mother Language Day! We are celebrating languages from South Africa
and abroad with a jam packed day of beginners’ language courses, a
panel discussion and global food and entertainment. We will also
organize a karaoke-evening after the main event. We have invited a
variety of institutions from all over the world to represent their
language and culture at our institute - apart from getting to know
them, you will also be able to win great prizes! Additionally, we are
hosting a panel discussion on the importance of multilingualism with
renowned politician Dr Makhosi Khoza, Prof Jonathan Jansen
(Stellenbosch University), Karien Brits (ATKV) and Dr Samia Chasi
(International Education Association of South Africa). The UN
established 21 February as the International Mother Language Day to
promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and to promote
multilingualism – so it’s only fitting that we bring together a
great round of experts on this topic and celebrate the importance of
our many mother languages. This is an event for the whole family, so
make sure you bring uGogo nomKhulu, los niños, Oom and Tannie –
basically die ganze Familie! The International Mother Language Day is
hosted by the Goethe-Institut South Africa on the occasion of our 25th
Birthday. We are proud to welcome our partners: Alliance Francaise,
Ambani Africa, ATKV, British Council, Camoes, Confucius Institute
(UJ), DAAD, Dante Alighieri Society, Deutsche Schule Johannesburg,
