Our Remote Pilot Licence (RPL) course provides pilots with the knowledge and practical skills that are necessary to safely and efficiently operate unmanned aircraft commercially.

PLEASE NOTE: As per the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), in order to fly a drone for commercial purposes, after obtaining the RPL, one needs to either take the next step and get the Remote Operator Certificate (ROC), orpartner with an existing company and operate under their ROC in order to conform under CAA legislation. Gaining the RPL is part of this process.

MARCH 2019 INTAKE:
Part 1: 25 March – 3 April 2019, daily from 08:00 – 16:00.

8 sessions theory sessions at the Orms Cape Town School of Photography.

Part 2: 10 practical sessions, times to be arranged directly with Heli-X Cape Town.

(18 sessions in total, excluding examinations.)

APRIL 2019 INTAKE:
Part 1: 29 April – 8 May 2019 daily from 08:00 – 16:00.

8 sessions theory sessions at the Orms Cape Town School of Photography.

Part 2: 10 practical sessions, times to be arranged directly with Heli-X Cape Town.

(18 sessions in total, excluding examinations.)

THEORY:
The Course Material consists of 14 Modules covering the subjects below and you will be required to pass 6 examinations:

• Air Law
• Principles of Flight
• Aircraft Technical & General
• Meteorology
• Human Performance
• Flight Planning & Navigation

In addition to the 14 Modules, you are required to obtain a Restricted Radio License.  This is covered within the 8 days theoretical training. You will be required to write an online CAA examination and pass a practical test with the Radio Examiner.

COURSE PRE-REQUISITES:
Please note that you are required to obtain a Class 4 aviation medical which is not included in the course price. If you have a medical condition that prevents you from obtaining a Class 4 medical, you will not be able to obtain a Remote Pilot Licence. Therefore, we recommend that you complete your medical as soon as possible.
