SJ1 - Saint John First Wesleyan Church

Acts gives a description of a new community with followers of a radical teaching known simply as 'the Way'. These first followers of Jesus, promoted community, Kingdom building, a missional mindset, and complete involvement. This is SJ1. In the Bible we find a book called Acts. And in the book of Acts we are given a description of a new community. This community, which had never existed in this way before, were followers of a radical teaching known simply as 'the Way'. These were the first followers of Jesus Christ, and they would be known as Christians. These first followers of the Way set the standards of how, and why a church exists. These questions are answered in what they valued as a community. We see they greatly valued community and they fellowshipped regularly. We see they were about the business of building the Kingdom of God; they boldly shared Jesus in both words and the way in which they lived. They realized that being the church was not about gathering for a weekly service, but it was participating in the ministry of Jesus as a church. They understood that the church is to be missional; they shared everything they had with one another so that no one had any needs. This is a beautiful picture of how God intended the world to be. Here at Saint John First Wesleyan Church (SJ1), we are a growing community seeking to model our ministry after that first church. We have people from all backgrounds and ages, but we gather with a common focus - to build His Kingdom.
