COURSE CONTENT:
* Examine key theories and research related to child development
such as Attachment Theory and Early Brain Development and how these
link to practice
* Develop an understanding of what is a quality learning environment
and examine the pace of the learning day for 0-3 age group
* Explore the adult role in scaffolding rich learning experiences
for the 0-3 age group
* Our 0-3 year olds as ‘Capable Learners’
* The importance of outdoors
* Strengthening theory-to-practice links
* Opportunity for professional and academic reflection
* Share practice examples
* Explore areas for practice development
* Explore key elements of effective self - evaluation using current
quality improvement BTA HGIOELC and Midlothian 0-3 Document
EXPECTED OUTCOMES:
* Practitioners will have improved confidence in providing effective
learning environments for very young children
* Practitioners will have improved knowledge and understanding of
the significance of establishing close attachment relationships
* Practitioners will have greater understanding of the importance of
early brain development and linking this knowledge to the adult role
in scaffolding learning experiences
* Practitioners will have clearer understanding of adult roles in
promoting quality early learning and childcare to secure better
outcomes for children.
* Practitioners will have improved confidence in their knowledge of
the 0-3 yr olds as active learners and how they can link this to
observing and planning learning experiences
* Practitioners will have improved confidence in relating
theory-to-practice.
* Practitioners will have improved confidence and understanding of
using self- evaluation in daily practice to support critical
reflection.
