Hampshire College Kern Center

The R.W. Kern Center is a living symbol of Hampshire’s values in practice and ideas in action, certified under the world’s most advanced green building standard, the Living Building Challenge. The Kern Center generates its own electricity, collects and treats its own water, and is built with locally sourced, non toxic materials. The building is a major piece of Hampshire’s broad sustainability initiative to make campus operations carbon neutral.  This multifunctional building also serves as a living laboratory, a place for students and the public study to research and learn about sustainable building systems and performance.
