Hilary Cheung started violin at the age of 18. She studied under Mr. Fan Ting, the 2nd violin principal of The Hong Kong Philharmonics; and studied under Professor Ole Böhn and Violinist Steven An from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music when she was studying abroad in Australia. Hilary is active in different orchestras and ensembles in both Sydney and Hong Kong, as a violinist or violist.
Hilary graduated from the University of New South Wales, Australia. She obtained a Bachelor of Medical Science, majoring in Medical Microbiology and Pathology. After abandoning the violin for 2 years due to the busy medical degree life, she finally realized and acknowledged her intense enthusiasm towards violin during the final year of her degree. She decided to give up science work in order to pursue music when she was 22.
Hilary is a now full-time violin teacher, holding a teaching position at the Hong Kong Children Strings. She is keen on breaking the stereotype of “adult learners can never succeed at learning the musical instrument”, along with working on violin pedagogy for adult learners. She would like to encourage anyone who wishes to learn musical instruments to pursue their dream.
